We are looking for energetic camp counselors at our St Faustina School 3420 McDowell Drive in Mississauga location. The Camp Counselor's responsibility is to ensure campers are always safe. You will positively lead and oversee campers' activities and ensure they are safe (not lost or hurt ) while creating a fun and inclusive camp atmosphere.
Summary of Role
The role of the Camp Councillor is to directly supervise, safeguard, and support your camper group during their stay with us. This will require a lot of personal focus and energy as well as close collaboration with fellow staff and the Team Leader to be successful.
The daily goal of the Camp counselor is to ensure camper safety while fostering a fun and inclusive atmosphere to enjoy their selected activities. Campers should feel safe and welcome as they learn and grow through their activities and interactions with other campers and staff.
Staff should feel valued by the manager, other staff and campers and be supported in their role with training, daily guidance, and by teammates as they serve campers' needs. Counselors should be proficient in the activities they lead and try to improve as the camp progresses, but the focus is on the child's overall needs.
Counselors supervise their groups with their selected camp activity, outdoor play activities and on Field Trip outings, which includes bus transportation to the Field trip venue.
Counselors report to a Team Leader /Site Supervisor at their location
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Supervising campers and ensuring their safety in all settings, whether indoors, outdoors, or on field trips. This includes administering first aid to campers as needed and producing accurate incident reports.
Plan and implement camp activities. Daily Preparation of camp materials before the start of the activity, managing the group during the activity, and resetting the materials and the camper space to be neat, clean and safe.
Prepare and deliver camp activities in a manner appropriate to the campers' age group.
Teach specific camp skills by leading a group of campers in various activities such as Cooking, Baking, Crafts, Outdoor Adventure Camps, Lego Robotics, STEM, Sports Development, Cake Decorating, SPA Science, and Sewing (machine).
Guide the group through the daily schedule, including material preparation, transitioning between core activities, managing the lunch period, and overseeing outside play activities while maintaining a clean area/section, as well as managing Field Trip outings.
Discussing camper participation and concerns with parents and other camp staff members daily as required. The Team Leader can support councillors with parent/guardian conversations.
Daily photography and upload of images of campers that have consented to photography
Assist with Check-In/Check-Out as needed.
Help manage the Lost and Found at the end of each day.
Provide consistent leadership to foster positive group interactions.
Create and nurture a safe, fun, and inclusive environment for all campers. Resolve conflicts between children fairly and address behavioral issues as they arise.
Safely supervise and guide a group of children during weekly Field Trip outings, including safe bus loading, travel, unloading, and group movement at the site.
Avoid negative interactions, actions, and words, with fellow staff and the manager to assure a positive camp environment
Follow the Site Supervisor's directions and work collaboratively within a team structure, both offering and accepting help as needed. needed
Duties, Qualifications, and Skills
Duties
Should be available for the entire camp period Monday to Friday for assigned hours. Candidates must be available for the entirety of the employment period. Time off requests will be assessed on a case-by-case situation, based on staffing needs.
Lead a group of kids in one or more camps that may include STEM, Lego robotics, Cooking, Baking, Arts and Crafts, Creator Camp, Sports Development, Cake decorating, On the Go Excursions, Sewing, Fun with food, BrightSparkz. Best efforts are made to connect you to the preferred camper age group, camper activity, and camp location to ensure your success.
Qualifications
2 Mandatory paid staff training days hosted by Creative Kids Place before camp
A minimum of 1 year of proven previous camp experience is an asset
Completion of 2 years of a college or University program preferred
Level 3 - Vulnerable Sector Check to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted. This is a condition of employment and must be in place prior to opening of camp.
Must have a valid First Aid/CPR level C certificate in place by the start of camp
Should have completed at least 1 year of university or college studies
Should make available 2 references with email and phone contacts
Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (strength and stamina to follow strenuous activities like hiking, running, crouching, or carrying children)
Skills
Must have a knowledge of and experience in teaching children
Should demonstrate teamwork and collaboration mindset and skills
Strong planning organizational skills with the ability to be flexible as needed
Should have problem-solving skills to resolve issues for campers and staff issues
Should enjoy interacting with campers from ages 4 to 12
Excellent communication skills required to work with staff, campers and parents/guardians
Must be patient and comfortable working in a busy, loud hectic setting

Work Conditions
Air conditioning at all locations except the Auditorium at Streetsville.
Stand/Walking for long periods
Weekly Bus and Field Trip of 20 to 60 minutes
Minimum 1 hour daily outdoor play periods with campers
30-minute lunch break. 2 x 15-minute breaks should be arranged with the manager
Lunch may need to be enjoyed with the children to ensure supervision. Not all locations have a staff room.
Must be patient and be comfortable working in a busy, loud hectic setting
Salary Schedule Location
Starting salary: $17.20 base pay. Increase availability based on camp experience, Creative Kids Place experience and professional or educational qualifications
