The energy market in India is poised to become an exciting opportunity with steady growth, infrastructure build-out, and imminent liberalization. Shell is a significant participant in this opportunity with Shell Energy India (SEI) as the downstream extension in the energy value chain to capture value. SEI is Shell’s single face for the energy requirements of Commercial and Industrial (C&I) customers in India initially focusing on gas / LNG by pipelines and trucks, but also including power and other energy and environment products and services in future.
The SEI business comprises Gas Marketing & Trading; Commercial Operations; Downstream LNG (LNG by trucks and LNG for trucks); and Power. The DLNG team initiated trucked LNG sales late in 2020, and, is responsible for development of new business opportunities for LNG by trucks to the commercial and industrial (C&I) sector and use of LNG as a transportation fuel for heavy duty vehicles.
As some of these opportunities are at a nascent stage, Shell as an industry leader has an opportunity to provide guidance to the government and regulatory bodies on developing the enabling regulations and safety standards
What’s the role?
As Business Development Manager (BDM) – DLNG Sales, you will be accountable in identifying opportunities for LNG sale and purchase, negotiate enabling commercial agreements with potential C&I customers, Fleet operators, Hauliers, OEMs and City Gas Distribution companies and maintain relationships with key counterparties, in order to deliver SEI’s business plan.
In this role, you will be part of a dynamic front line deal making team, responsible to deliver SEI’s important strategic growth agenda. It is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a strong and consistent track record of delivery to broaden her/his skills in the growing energy marketing business.
Your further responsibilities include:
• Identify short and long-term LNG sales opportunities for I&C segment, CGD companies, Fleet owners and State transport companies. Develop commercial and contractual relationships to facilitate the LNG marketing activities of Shell Energy India.
• Create, maintain and share a robust data base of potential customers, partners and competitors covering business metrics, financial performance, growth strategies etc. Conduct market assessments and company analysis, review market intelligence, market research, industry publications, company presentations/reports, analyst reports etc.
• Contribute to and help formulate customer / segment specific short term and long-term marketing and pricing strategies.
• Develop relationships with hauliers and OEMs in order to create a positive atmosphere for adoption of LNG as an auto fuel. Coordinate across relevant COB to mature LNG Transport fuel marketing plans.
• Interact with industry, regulatory and other government bodies to track and influence development of enabling policies and regulations for increased LNG usage.
• Help the Team Lead in initiating and managing internal approvals & mandate taking process for negotiations of key agreements and transactions.
• Work closely with the global DLNG team, Business Development, Commercial and Regulatory teams in order to provide inputs and adopt best practices and share learnings across geographical and business boundaries.
