Our Team:
IBEW Local 1687 encompasses a very large jurisdiction in Northeastern Ontario. Our office is located in Sudbury, Ontario, but we represent over 700 members in places like Sault Ste. Marie, Wawa, Dubreuilville, North Bay, Powassan, Timmins, Cochrane, Parry Sound, Hearst, Kapuskasing, etc. We represent electricians, powerline technicians, network cabling specialists, apprentices, equipment operators, groundworkers, etc. Within the office, we are a small team of five who facilitate the day-to-day operations. Our team includes three IBEW representatives and two administrative personnel.
The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a full-time Bookkeeper / Office Administrator to join our team in Sudbury.
Accountabilities
In this position you will:
Manage day-to-day bookkeeping tasks
Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations regarding financial practices.
File government source deductions & prepare weekly payroll.
Prepare trial balance of books for audit.
Record keeping (hard copy & electric filing system)
Ensure invoices are paid in a timely manner.
Prepare invoices and bank deposits.
Reconcile accounts and post journal entries.
Receive walk-in traffic & answer telephone calls.
Collaborate with other departments to gather necessary information.
Send correspondences to IBEW 1687 members.
Establish work priorities and ensure procedures are followed & deadlines are met.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Specific Skills:
Education:
The successful candidate will possess a College Diploma in Business Administration or other associated Business discipline or equivalent.
Experience:
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience as a bookkeeper or similar accounting roles.
Experience in an office or business administration role.
Computer Skills:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (including Word, Excel, Outlook.
Microsoft Access Database management is a must.
Sage 50 Accounting software is a must.
Experience with Adobe Suite including Photoshop and InDesign considered an asset.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Professional courteous customer-service orientated skills is a must.
Strict respect for confidentiality.
Capacity to quickly adapt to frequent interruptions while adhering to proper procedures on multi-process tasks.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and prioritize concurrent deadlines.
Bilingual (English/French) an asset.

This position is covered under the Collective Agreement between IBEW Local 1687 and IAMAW.
