Job Description and Duties
Do you enjoy working in a fast-paced Remote-Centered environment with variety in your work? The California Department of Insurance (CDI) is seeking a dynamic Attorney IV who can take substantial initiative and who can exercise broad discretion, to join the Policy and Legislation.

Under the general direction of the Assistant Chief Counsel, the Attorney IV is responsible for performing the most difficult, complex, and sensitive legal services for the California Department of Insurance (CDI). Requiring minimal supervision, the Attorney IV independently works as a legal expert to provide legal and policy advice and assistance within a broad range of issues pertaining to the implementation of federal and state health insurance laws.
Effective July 1, 2025, the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025 and related Pay Differential 386. PLP 2025 requires employees to receive a reduction in pay in exchange for monthly hours of PLP 2025 leave credits. Working Conditions
Requires being in a stationary position, consistent with office work, for extended periods.
Daily use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, camera for virtual meetings, office equipment, and telephone.
Lift, carry, or otherwise transport documents to meetings, conferences, and other public appearances.
The incumbent must be able to work in a high-rise building.
The incumbent may telework in accordance with CDI's Telework Policy. Teleworking employees may be required to report to their headquarters office location on designated telework days. Travel expenses are not reimbursed, however other authorized transit subsidies do exist for those who qualify.
Must be able to work in an environment that encourages creative thinking and innovation; understand the importance of good communication, listening, respect and discretion, and be willing to develop productive partnerships with stakeholders inside and outside CDI.
