Are you ready to take the next step in your accounting career? We have an exciting opportunity for an assistant accountant to become a key part of our dynamic Wellington office. In this pivotal role, you’ll work closely with our senior financial accountant and the wider finance team, contributing to the accuracy, compliance, and efficiency of our firm’s financial operations and information systems.



The role

Reporting to the senior financial accountant, you will play a key support role within the financial operations team responsible for providing financial and management accounting services to the firm. You will assist with the day-to-day transactional accounting needs of the business as well as liaising with internal teams to ensure the firm's financial reporting and tax compliance requirements are met on a timely basis.

This is a great opportunity for an aspiring CA/CPA working towards their qualification. You will be an integral part of a supportive and collaborative team whilst working in an exceptional New Zealand law firm.


Your main responsibilities will include:

Monitor and manage daily cashflows
Process fortnightly payroll journals into 3E financial management system
Perform month end duties including processing accruals, prepayments, payroll and cost allocation
Reconcile balance sheets and ensure accuracy of general ledger
Assist with the maintenance of fixed asset register
Assist with financial statements and audits
Assist with GST, FBT and statistical returns.

To be successful in this role, you will also ideally have:

A bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field
2 years+ professional accounting experience gained in NZ (working towards CA/CPA qualification)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and financial management systems
High level of attention to detail and accuracy in all areas of work
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Effective time management and organisational skills in a fast-paced environment
A positive, 'can do' attitude, self-motivation, initiative and excellent communication skills.
