Position Summary
The Armed Security Officer provides armed security services to protect property and persons from sabotage, fire, espionage, theft, vandalism, and other hazards; controls entry and exit of all personnel, vehicles and other equipment at entry points to the National Guard Facility or Base. The Armed Security Officer assists and directs visitors; enforces parking regulations; ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations, rules and laws; prepares and maintains records and documents; monitors base alarm systems; and attends training and safety classes.
Salary Information
New hires currently start at $25.38 per hour once they pass the qualification to carry firearms. This starting wage consists of a base pay of $23.38 per hour, plus a $2.00 per hour add-on to the hourly rate for carrying a firearm while on duty. (The employer will provide the required firearm training.) These positions also have Protective Occupation Status within the Wisconsin Retirement System, which is an accelerated retirement benefit.
For current permanent state employees, pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.
The Department of Military Affairs does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.

Job Details
These positions have the following conditions of employment:
Must be at least 18 years old; possess a high school diploma, GED or HSED.
Must qualify to carry firearms and remain qualified as a condition of employment. To be qualified, must not have been convicted of a felony or any domestic abuse charges or convictions.
In addition, the position requires a Common Access Card (CAC). A CAC requires successful completion of a Department of Defense investigation and an additional more in-depth federal background check for gaining access to federal computer systems, restricted locations, or classified information.
Successful candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment medical evaluation, including a drug screen; a psychological assessment; and will be required to complete a fitness/agility test consisting of; push-ups (18), sit ups (24), sprint (300 meter in 90 seconds), run (1.5 mile in 20 min), push (67lbs), pull (77lbs), drag/carry (145lbs-25ft) and lift (70lbs).
Positions located at the Truax Air Base require possession of a valid driver’s license upon appointment and must obtain a military driver license following hire.
A 12-month probationary period is required.
All new permanent, project, and limited term employees will be required to report to JFHQ in Madison on the Monday of their first week of employment for the New Employee Orientation (NEO) program. Additional information will be sent to the new employees and their supervisors on the Tuesday prior to NEO.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified candidates will have experience, training, or education in security/law enforcement.
Well qualified candidates will have:
Completed a professional firearms training course
Security/law enforcement experience AND training/education
