About the Career Comeback Program
Our 12-week Career Comeback program is designed to support talented professionals re-entering the workforce. As part of the program, you’ll join us in a permanent role within our Risk team, while receiving personalised support to ease your transition, including:

About the team

The Model Risk Validation team sits within Enterprise Risk and plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity and safety of models used across the Group. We independently validate and challenge models developed across CommBank, helping reduce risk and promote best practice. You’ll join our AI General Model Validation team — a high-performing group responsible for assessing the next generation of AI and machine learning models before they’re deployed.

About the role
As Manager, Model Valuation, you’ll contribute your expertise in AI and ML to support critical validation projects across the bank. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you’ll mentor junior data scientists, guide technical reviews, and help embed best-in-class validation processes and tools. You’ll also support the operationalisation of new frameworks and champion the use of cutting-edge analytics technology.

In this role, you will

Oversee and mentor a small team of data scientists on model validation projects

Collaborate closely with model developers to review and challenge AI and ML models

Drive the adoption of modern tooling, including Python, JupyterLab, GitHub and generative AI platforms

Contribute to the design and implementation of new validation frameworks and processes

Champion best practice in modelling, documentation and risk management

Help shape strategic initiatives that transform how we validate models across the Group

We’re interested in hearing from people who

Have been on a career break for two years or more

Hold permanent Australian working rights

Bring at least 5 years of experience building or validating AI or ML models (ideally in banking or financial services)

Are familiar with modern analytics tools and methods, including Python, ML techniques, GitHub and JupyterLab

Possess excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify complexity for a range of audiences

Hold a degree in a quantitative field such as mathematics, data science, statistics, actuarial studies or physics
