GLOCAL Foundation of Canada

Job Description

GLOCAL Foundation of Canada is a national non-profit dedicated to empowering youth and underserved communities through civic engagement, social innovation, and inclusive opportunities. We connect young leaders from Arctic Bay to Victoria, from Charlottetown to overseas Canadian communities, providing platforms for service, learning, and leadership.

Our volunteers come from diverse backgrounds—Indigenous youth, newcomers, refugees, rural and remote residents, students, young professionals, and equity-deserving groups. We believe in meeting people where they are and making civic engagement accessible to all.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Volunteer Coordinator who is digitally savvy, passionate about service, and skilled at building inclusive, collaborative communities online and offline. This role is the central connector between GLOCAL volunteers, staff, and community partners—ensuring that our volunteers are supported, engaged, and empowered to make a real impact.

You’ll be managing daily communications across platforms (Discord, email, project management tools), tracking volunteer activities and hours, coordinating events and training, and problem-solving on the fly to support a highly diverse group of volunteers with different needs and cultural contexts.

Key Responsibilities
• Serve as the first point of contact for volunteers across Discord, email, and other team communication channels.
• Maintain clear, friendly, and timely communication with volunteers, responding to questions and providing updates.
• Foster a welcoming and inclusive volunteer community across all platforms.
• Event & Activity Coordination
• Organize and support volunteer-led events, workshops, and community engagement activities (both virtual and in-person where applicable).
• Ensure volunteers are matched to meaningful roles and projects based on skills, interests, and community needs.
• Maintain accurate volunteer records, including hours, tasks completed, and skills gained.
• Prepare periodic reports on volunteer participation, engagement, and program outcomes.
• Anticipate and address challenges quickly—whether logistical, interpersonal, or technical.
• Adapt approaches to accommodate cultural differences, accessibility needs, and varying levels of experience.
• Assist with onboarding and orientation for new volunteers.
• Coordinate skills-building sessions, resources, and peer-to-peer learning opportunities.

Qualifications

Required
• Experience coordinating volunteers, events, or community engagement projects.
• Strong digital communication skills—comfortable managing Discord, email, Google Workspace, and online project management tools.
• Culturally aware and adaptable—understanding that volunteers may need different types of support and accommodations.
• Excellent organization and time-management skills.
• Proactive problem-solver who can work independently and in a team.
• Comfortable with flexible work schedules, including occasional evenings and weekends.

Assets
• Experience in non-profits, volunteer engagement, youth engagement, or civic participation programs.
• Knowledge of accessibility best practices and inclusive community-building.
• Bilingual or multilingual ability (especially French, Indigenous languages, newcomer community languages).

Why Join GLOCAL?
• Nationwide impact—work with volunteers from every province, territory, and beyond.
• Innovative environment—be part of a digital-first, youth-led civic innovation ecosystem.
• Flexibility—remote work with adaptable scheduling.
• Inclusive culture—we value lived experiences and diverse perspectives.
