Experienced Veterinary Assistant — Treatment & Surgery Focus
Vancouver Downtown Pet Hospital | Downtown Vancouver, BC
$19.00 – $23.00/hour | Full-Time or Part-TimeAbout the Role
We’re looking for a seasoned veterinary assistant who thrives in the treatment and surgical areas of a busy small-animal practice. This is a hands-on clinical role where you’ll support our veterinarians and RVTs during procedures, manage patient prep and recovery, and provide skilled restraint for everything from routine exams to challenging surgical cases. Strong client communication skills are essential too—you’ll be the bridge between our medical team and the pet families who trust us.What You’ll DoTreatment & Surgical Support

Provide confident, safe restraint for canine and feline patients during exams, venipuncture, vaccinations, and nail trims—including fearful, stressed, or reactive animals using low-stress handling techniques.
Prepare sterile instrument packs and surgical supplies; assist with intraoperative monitoring and post-anesthetic recovery.
Sanitize and disinfect exam rooms, surgical suites, hospital wards, kennels, and treatment areas according to strict infection-control protocols.
Process in-house laboratory samples and maintain accurate, timely documentation in patient files.
Client Care & Coordination

Greet clients, manage appointment flow, and handle multi-line phone communications with professionalism and warmth.
Facilitate prescription refills and communicate clear post-procedure care instructions to pet owners.
Translate medical information into accessible guidance, serving as a trusted liaison between clinical staff and clients.
What You Bring

At least 1 year of paid experience as a veterinary assistant in a clinical hospital setting (experience in treatment and surgery strongly preferred).
Proven competency handling stressed, fearful, or reactive dogs and cats with confidence and low-stress techniques.
Working knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, core vaccine protocols, and common pharmaceuticals.
