Here at Auckland Council, our leisure centres play a key role in achieving our goal of getting Auckland to be the most active city in the world. And right now, we’re looking for part-time Learn to Swim Team Instructors join our Pool and Leisure Centre teams across Auckland to help achieve that goal!


Based at Takapuna Pool and Leisure Centre, this is a fantastic job where you can gain a formal qualification teaching people the basic principles of how to swim, maintaining a fun, caring and safe environment for customers and visitors - we'll provide the training you need to succeed in the role.


This is a permanent part-time position, and we would love to hear from those who can work 7.5-hr per week.


Thursday: 15.15 – 18.45 and Friday: 15.15 – 19.15

Applicants will need to be available to start from 3:15pm as part of the role requirements.


You will be required to attend a two‑week training programme, Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm.

September 28 – October 9, 2026

This role involves spending extended periods in the water, working in a warm and humid pool environment, and regular exposure to chlorinated water.

He kōrero mōu: About you


You’re a confident swimmer and engaging instructor with a genuine love of the water. You bring strong customer service skills and can communicate clearly and confidently with people from all walks of life. Most importantly, you’re passionate about working with our diverse community and making a positive difference through what you do.


If you already hold a recognised swim teaching qualification or have previous experience as a Swimming Instructor, that’s fantastic but it’s not essential. We provide full, comprehensive training to support your success in the role. You’ll also need to be willing to complete First Aid training.

Strong swimming ability and confidence in the water
Excellent communication and customer service skills
A passion for teaching and engaging with a diverse community
Willingness to complete First Aid training (training provided)
