Mo te turanga | About the role
NZQA is seeking an experienced and people-focused Team Leader to join the Quality Assurance Division (QAD) in Wellington.
This is a key leadership position responsible for leading a high-performing team that delivers operational support, coordination and secretariat services, and assurance activities that support NZQA's quality assurance functions across the tertiary education sector.
The team plays a critical role in ensuring efficient business operations, supporting compliance activities, maintaining effective systems and processes, coordinating stakeholder engagement activities, and delivering excellent service to both internal and external stakeholders.
As Team Leader, you will lead, coach and develop a team of seven staff while driving continuous improvement initiatives, building strong stakeholder relationships, and ensuring high-quality service delivery across the division.
In this role, you will:
Lead and develop a high-performing team to deliver quality operational and administrative services.
Oversee operational support, secretariat functions and service delivery across QAD.
Manage priorities, performance and assurance processes to support compliance and business objectives.
Act as the escalation point for complex operational, customer service and compliance matters.
Use performance insights to drive process improvements, customer experience and organisational effectiveness.
Build strong partnerships with education organisations, sector agencies, professional bodies and internal stakeholders.

To be successful in this role, you'll be an experienced operational leader who enjoys developing people, improving systems and delivering excellent customer-focused outcomes.
You will have:
Experience using CRM systems, workflow management tools, databases and Microsoft Office applications.
Demonstrated success leading teams and building capability in a complex environment.
A continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to identify opportunities and implement effective solutions.
Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to build trusted working relationships across a range of audiences.
Experience working in regulatory, compliance, quality assurance or contract management environments. Knowledge of the tertiary education sector would be desirable.
