Hiring Unit: Rare Books and Special Collections
Job Title: Student Project Assistant – Office Assistant A
Reports to: Director, Rare Books and Special Collections
Hour of work: 25 hours
Hourly Rate: $16.20
Classification: AMUSE A
Duration: May 12– August 31, 2025
Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director and working closely with Rare Books and Special Collections curators, the Project Assistant will contribute to the on-going maintenance, processing and basic conservation of targeted collections
Perform duties related to shelf stabilization of large areas of targeted collections: “Accession- Octavo”; complete LC folio Collection ; parts of the William Colgate History of Printing Collection
Work on special projects in the re-housing and conservation of: Early Printed Books including Incunabula; Historical Documents on parchment; prep Bibles for cataloguing
Create or maintain lists of material not otherwise listed in the library catalogue: Langille Voltaire donation -prep for cataloguing; line-up French cutter books and others for cataloguing
Participate in clean-up and shifting parts of collections for better shelf disposition and readiness for Fall;
Other duties as required
Training will be provided using in-house conservation techniques; along with orientation to the collections. All duties to be completed on-site, in Rare Books and Special Collections, 4th floor McLennan Library Building.

Attention to detail
Can lift 10 lbs
Comfortable lifting boxes onto shelves; working in a sometimes dusty environment
