Full job description
Student Administration Officer
School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography (SAME)
Grade 5
The School of Anthropology & Museum Ethnography (SAME) is seeking a motivated and organised Student Administration Officer to join its Academic Administration team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the smooth delivery of teaching, admissions, and student support within a busy and internationally recognised academic department.
About the Role
As Student Administration Officer, you will provide high-quality administrative support across a broad range of teaching and student administration activities. Working closely with the Graduate Programme Coordinator and wider administration team, you will help ensure the effective day-to-day running of the School’s academic operations and contribute to a positive student experience.
The role includes supporting teaching activities such as lecture and seminar set-up, room bookings, timetable coordination, and event administration. You will maintain accurate student records and databases, respond to student enquiries, and liaise with academic staff and central University services to support a wide range of administrative processes.
A key aspect of the role will involve supporting graduate admissions activity, including assisting with application administration and contributing to outreach and access initiatives. You will also provide wider operational support for the School, including reception cover, room preparation, and assistance with academic and student events as required.
This is a varied role within a busy academic environment, suited to someone who enjoys working collaboratively, managing multiple priorities, and providing excellent administrative support across a diverse range of activities.
About You
You will have excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied workload effectively within a fast-paced environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the confidence to work with students, academic staff, and professional services colleagues at all levels.
You will demonstrate strong attention to detail and accuracy in administrative work, particularly when maintaining records and handling enquiries. The successful candidate will be proactive, reliable, and able to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Previous experience in administration or within a higher education environment would be advantageous, though not essential.
About the Department and the University
The School of Anthropology & Museum Ethnography (SAME) is a leading academic department delivering world-class teaching and research across anthropology, archaeology, museum ethnography, and human sciences. The School supports a diverse community of undergraduate, postgraduate, and research students, and works closely with academic staff to deliver an outstanding student experience.
The University of Oxford is a stimulating work environment, internationally recognised as a world-class centre of excellence. Its research and teaching play a leading role in addressing global challenges and shaping the future through innovation, collaboration, and academic excellence.
Application Process
You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement, CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application. Applications should be submitted via the University of Oxford recruitment website.
The closing date for applications is Friday 12th June 2026 at noon.
We expect interviews to be held in-person commencing week of the 29th June
