Job Description
Overview
The Chinese and Southeast Asian Legal Clinic (CSALC) is a community legal clinic funded by Legal Aid Ontario (LAO). We provide legal advice and representation to low-income East and Southeast Asians across Ontario, including, but not limited to, clients from the Chinese, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Laotian, Burmese, and Filipino communities. Areas of law practiced include Immigration, Employment, Tenancy, Income Maintenance (Ontario Works, Ontario Disability Support Program, Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security, and Employment Insurance), and Power of Attorneys and Wills.
Our clinic is hiring a full-time permanent Staff Lawyer to join our team starting in July 2026. The salary range for this position is $102,492 – $110,179, commensurate with year of call. After successfully completing the three‑month probation period, employees become eligible for our full benefits package, which includes 100% employer‑paid health and dental coverage and a 6% RRSP contribution.
Job Responsibilities
Provide summary advice and representation to clients in the following legal areas: Immigration and Refugee, Income Maintenance, Tenant Rights, and Employment.
Represent clients in appeals, government tribunals and test case litigation.
Responsible for public legal education and social justice and legal reform advocacy.
Information to the public seeking legal information; where required, provide referrals to appropriate community/legal resources; and
Qualifications
Fluency in Mandarin, Cantonese or a Southeast Asian language is a strong asset
Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario with no less than 5 years of call
Experience in Immigration and Refugee Law or Employment Law is an asset
Strong oral and written advocacy skills and ability to work independently
Preference for candidates with a strong commitment to social justice and demonstrated experience in working with disadvantaged communities
