Software Engineer (Core Platform)

We’re working with a high-growth fintech infrastructure company building the technology that powers global investing platforms.
They’re looking for a Software Development Engineer II to join their Core Platform team, responsible for building the internal services, APIs, and developer tooling that enable engineering teams to move faster and scale reliably.
This is a great opportunity for engineers who enjoy working on distributed systems, platform infrastructure, and developer experience in a cloud-native environment.
What you’ll be working on
As part of the Core Platform team, you’ll design and build shared services and internal tools used across the entire engineering organisation.
You’ll be working on things like:
• Designing and developing shared platform services, libraries, and APIs in Java
• Building internal developer tooling and self-service infrastructure that improves developer productivity
• Developing event-driven systems using technologies like Kafka
• Improving CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
• Designing scalable microservices and cloud-native architecture
• Ensuring platform reliability, observability, and high availability
• Collaborating with engineering teams to improve developer experience across the platform
Your work will directly impact the speed, scalability, and reliability of systems used across the organisation.
Tech Stack
• Java
• Kafka / event-driven architecture
• AWS cloud infrastructure
• Microservices architecture
• PostgreSQL / MySQL
• CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments
• Docker / Kubernetes (nice to have)
• Observability tools such as Prometheus or Grafana
What we’re looking for
• 3–5 years of experience in backend or platform engineering
• Strong experience building Java-based services and APIs
• Experience with distributed systems or event-driven architectures
• Exposure to cloud-native development, ideally AWS
• Experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery practices
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in collaborative engineering teams
Nice to have
• Experience with Docker or Kubernetes
• Exposure to platform engineering or developer tooling
• Experience in fintech, trading systems, or financial platforms
• Experience with observability or monitoring tools
