Social Media & Content Advisor
Job Description
We're looking for a talented and experienced social media & Content Advisor to join our Corporate Communications Team on a full-time, permanent basis.
In this role, you'll lead Hutt City Council's social media presence across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn, creating compelling content that informs, inspires and builds trust with our community. You'll work across a wide range of topics, collaborating with teams throughout Council to tell authentic stories, promote key initiatives, and help bring our city's vision to life.
No two days are the same. One day you could be creating video content for a community event, the next analysing social media trends, advising on social media strategy and policy, mentoring others who use social media across Council, developing campaign content, or responding to emerging issues online.
You'll make an impact by:
Developing and delivering social media strategies that strengthen Council's online presence and community engagement.
Creating engaging content across a variety of channels, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok.
Producing high-quality written, visual and multimedia content that aligns with Council's brand and voice.
Building meaningful online connections by engaging with our community and responding to enquiries.
Monitoring performance and using insights and analytics to continually improve content and engagement.
Supporting the management of online issues, misinformation and reputational risks through proactive monitoring and response.
Supporting and mentoring other Council teams who use social media on the use guidelines and brand
About You
You'll be an experienced creative storyteller who understands how to connect with different audiences and create content that resonates.
To be successful in this role, you'll:
Have proven experience managing various social media channels and creating engaging digital content.
Be confident developing content across a range of formats, including written, visual and video.
Have strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences and platforms.
Be up to date with emerging social media trends, tools and best practice.
Have experience using social media management and analytics platforms to measure success and optimise performance.
Enjoy building relationships and collaborating with people across a large organisation.
Bring creativity, initiative and sound judgement when navigating complex or sensitive issues.
Have a strong understanding of social media audiences and nuances.
Demonstrate an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a commitment to embedding te ao Māori perspectives in your work.
A qualification in communications, marketing or a related field is preferred, and experience in local government or the public sector would be an advantage.
