About the role

National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for a Senior Project Officer to work as part of the team and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and Aboriginal heritage.

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Project Officer to lead and support the delivery of a diverse range of construction and infrastructure projects across our estate.

In this role, you will manage projects from planning through to delivery, ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently and in line with environmental, quality and compliance requirements. You will work closely with contractors, consultants and internal stakeholders to oversee procurement activities, contract management, asset improvement initiatives and project outcomes that support conservation, visitor experience and operational objectives.

The ideal candidate will bring experience in one or more of the following areas:
Infrastructure and construction project delivery
Procurement and tendering processes
Contract management and contractor supervision
Asset management and maintenance programs
Work Health and Safety (WHS) compliance
Environmental management and approvals
Quality assurance and continuous improvement
Roads, access and civil works
Insurance and risk management

The Senior Project Officer will manage Project Officers and be responsible for planning, approvals, stakeholder engagement, procurement, contract supervision and delivering the on-ground works within required deadlines, to quality standards. You will be responsible for budget, project monitoring and evaluation. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a high performing team to support the achievement of organisational objectives.

About You

Your passion for your community and environment, coupled with a strong attention to detail and proficiency in project management will be key to your success in this role. You'll be adept in providing high level specialist advice and information to stakeholders on emerging project issues and to support project development and delivery in line with established plans, budgets, timeframes, policy and environmental objectives and other project and priorities.

You will have the ability to lead the team on procurement and contract management, including supervision of remote works projects which may require regular travel throughout the region.

Essential requirements
Appropriate tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent, relevant professional experience.
Project management skills and experience with an understanding of contemporary best practice in procurement, tendering and contract preparation, in managing project teams, consultants and contractors, and in applying environmental safety and risk management policies and systems.
Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and reviewing strategic plans, policies and programs, and in providing strategic and operational advice and recommendations to senior management.
