Role:
We are seeking a Senior PHP Full Stack Engineer who leverages AI as a core part of their development workflow to design, build, and modernize scalable web applications.
You will primarily work on PHP / Laravel-based systems, supported by modern frontend technologies like Vue / Nuxt, while handling backend services, API design, and database-driven applications. The role involves improving legacy PHP systems, increasing test coverage, and building scalable, API-driven architectures—while actively using AI to accelerate development and improve code quality.
This is a PHP-first role, where AI-driven development is expected in day-to-day engineering activities.
Responsibilities:
Core PHP / Laravel Development
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable applications using PHP (Laravel as primary framework)
• Build clean, modular, and reusable backend components and services
• Optimize application performance, database queries, and backend processes
AI-Driven Engineering
• Use AI-assisted tools to generate, refactor, and optimize PHP and frontend code
• Leverage AI to understand and modernize legacy PHP systems (e.g., PHP 5/7 → PHP 8, Laravel upgrades)
• Accelerate debugging, root cause analysis, and issue resolution using AI
API & Architecture
• Design and implement RESTful APIs and service-oriented architectures using Laravel
• Break down monolithic PHP applications into API-driven or microservices-based systems
• Ensure high performance, scalability, and maintainability of backend services
Legacy Modernization
• Upgrade legacy stacks (e.g., older Laravel versions, procedural PHP codebases)
• Use AI to analyze existing codebases, plan migrations, and execute safe refactoring
• Ensure backward compatibility and minimal regression during upgrades
Testing & Quality Engineering
• Write and maintain unit, integration, and automated tests (PHPUnit or similar)
• Use AI to increase test coverage and reduce dependency on manual QA
• Ensure high code quality through automated validation and testing strategies
Frontend Collaboration
• Work with Vue.js / Nuxt.js for frontend integration
• Collaborate on API consumption, state management, and SPA architectures
DevOps & Workflow Optimization
• Improve CI/CD pipelines, deployments, and development workflows
• Use AI in code reviews, automation, and release processes
• Continuously optimize development velocity and reduce manual effort
Required Skills:
• 5+ years of experience in PHP development (Laravel preferred)
• Strong expertise in Laravel framework, MVC architecture, and REST APIs
• Experience with modern frontend frameworks (Vue.js / Nuxt preferred)
• Hands-on experience with legacy PHP system modernization
• Strong knowledge of MySQL or similar relational databases
• Experience with API design, backend services, and scalable architectures
• Experience with automated testing (PHPUnit, integration testing, etc.)
• Demonstrated hands-on experience using AI tools (Copilot, ChatGPT, etc.) in development workflows
• Strong debugging, problem-solving, and system analysis skills
Preferred Skills:
• Exposure to Node.js (secondary backend)
• Experience with MongoDB or NoSQL databases
• Experience with cloud platforms (Linode, AWS, etc.)
• Knowledge of microservices architecture and containerization
AI-Driven Development Expectations
You are expected to actively use AI tools to:
• Generate and optimize PHP/Laravel backend code
• Increase test coverage across legacy and new systems
• Analyze and understand large PHP codebases quickly
• Accelerate Laravel upgrades and dependency modernization
• Debug issues and perform root cause analysis efficiently
• Improve documentation and onboarding processes
Success in this role means delivering faster, scalable, and high-quality PHP applications by effectively leveraging AI in everyday development.
