Mo te tunga | About the role

Counties Manukau Police District is looking for motivated individuals with an investigative mindset and a passion for forensics to join our team as a Qualified Scene of the Crime Officer or as a Trainee Scene of the Crime Officer.

You will be part of a team focusing on providing forensic evidence that will help identify and hold offenders to account. The team is committed to supporting our community by preventing further offending and victimisation.

As a Scene of the Crime Officer or Trainee Scene of the Crime Officer, you will initially be examining volume crime scenes and exhibits related to burglaries and recovered stolen vehicles.

If applying as a Trainee, this is a career pathway where you will be given mentoring and support to enable you to progress through the five-year training program. Key Accountabilities:

Conduct quality scene examinations for both volume and serious crimes.
Preserve and record forensic evidence.
Be self-motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team.
Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external partners.
He aha taau e kawe mai | What you'll bring

Whilst we are looking for skills, knowledge and experience relevant to the role, we also place high importance on your state of mind, the alignment of your values with ours, your ability to contribute to and build high performing teams, and the way that you lead yourself or others.

You will have a genuine desire to deliver high quality scene and exhibit examinations that enable Police to conduct thorough investigations into both volume and serious crime.
You will have good communication skills, the ability to plan, prioritise and make sound decisions.
You will have good written skills, complete quality crime scene records, documentation and reporting in a timely manner.
You will approach tasks, challenges and difficult situations in a positive and energetic manner while remaining focussed on maintaining high personal standards.
Whakaritenga motuhake | Special requirements

Successful applicants must have relevant crime scene experience and related qualification or equivalent relevant Police experience or a forensic degree or related forensic qualification.
The successful applicant is required to complete the New Zealand Police Crime Scene Examiners' Career Pathway requirements.
The successful applicant, prior to any offer of employment, will be required to consent to providing their fingerprints and DNA. These will be included on the AFIS Database and Crime Investigators' Elimination Database (DNA) for elimination purposes.
This role is set at Individual Contributor level, this means your key purpose is "to deliver or enable others to deliver Our Business".
