Sales Engineer
Job Description
Office Locations: Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Bangalore
Qualification: Degree/ Diploma Mechanical or Chemical engineering
Product range to be handled: The Sales Engineer will work with a premium portfolio of global process-equipment brands, including: AGI (Japan), DIEHM (Germany), LAUDA (Germany), GENSER (Germany), VTA (Germany), VACUUBRAND (Germany).
Products include temperature control systems, vacuum systems, jacketed glass reactors and distillation systems, rotary evaporators and thin film evaporators.
Role Summary:
The Sales Engineer will be responsible for techno-commercial sales of process equipment across assigned territories.
This is not a pure sales role. It is a hands-on, customer-facing, technical sales role that requires strong product understanding, application knowledge, and the ability to translate customer processes into the right technical solution.
The role involves customer visits, technical discussions, demos, proposal support, and close coordination with internal sales and service teams.
1. Customer Engagement & Sales Support
Visit customer facilities for product promotion and technical discussions
Understand customer processes and requirements to propose suitable technical solutions
Support achievement of sales targets in assigned territory
Work closely with Area Sales Manager and sales team to:
Evaluate new leads
Prepare proposals and customer presentations
Support product demonstrations and trials
Participate in customer meetings and sales calls to provide technical inputs during the selling process
Assist in identifying new customers and applications and establishing initial contact
2. Technical & Application Support
Develop strong knowledge of:
Company product portfolio
Equipment capabilities and limitations
Typical applications across pharma, chemical, R&D, pilot plants, and manufacturing
Study and understand principal companies, their product range, and application areas
Provide technical guidance and product clarification to customers
Support customers in solution configuration and customization
Collaborate with internal teams to resolve complex technical or application issues
Support service teams when technical inputs are required
Visit customer sites post-installation to:
Take feedback on equipment performance
Address basic operational queries
Strengthen customer relationships
3. Quotations, RFQs & Proposal Support
Review URS, RFQs, and bid documents received from customers
Understand customer requirements and coordinate with quotation / back-office teams
Ensure correct model selection, configuration, and scope
Review quotations to confirm alignment with customer needs
Track submitted quotations and follow up proactively to drive closure
4. Product Demonstrations & Trials
Support planning and execution of product demos and trials
Coordinate with internal teams and principals where required
Use demos as a tool to build customer confidence and drive conversion
5. Training & Knowledge Sharing
Participate in internal product and application training sessions
Support training of new team members when required
Continuously upgrade technical knowledge through learning and exposure
6. Market Feedback & Reporting
Stay updated on:
Market trends
Customer needs
Process applications
Competitor offerings
Share market and customer feedback to support product positioning and strategy
Maintain strong discipline on reporting:
Share weekly visit plans
Submit visit reports after customer meetings
Track opportunities, quotations, and follow-ups systematically
7. Key Skills & Expectations
Strong technical aptitude and willingness to learn about the equipment we sell
Ability to conduct meaningful technical discussions with customers
Good communication and presentation skills
High ownership for follow-ups, tracking, and closure
Team-oriented mindset with ability to work across sales, service, and back-office teams
Comfort with a techno-commercial role involving negotiation and payment follow-ups
