Why The Role Matters:

The Australian Creative Histories Futures (ACHF) is a national research infrastructure project being developed by researchers at UNSW’s School of the Arts Media in collaboration with the Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) as well as universities and industry partners across the country. The project will offer new and exciting insights into Australia’s creative history and heritage for scholars, policy makers, artists and authors alike.

The Research Data Specialist will collaborate with industry partner Creative Australia to manage research data activities and develop creative solutions to support the ACHF project outcomes. These include developing national technical infrastructure to analyse cultural data collections at scale; and improving researchers’ digital skills and raising awareness of best practice in digital research. The role involves attending Creative Australia’s office in-person three days a week. The remaining workdays can be flexible work from home.


Accountabilities:

Develop and maintain subject matter expertise, including maintaining a detailed knowledge of best-practices and relevant current technologies which support ACHF project and Creative Australia research in the portfolio area (arts, cultural and creative data).
Directly support ACHF project and Creative Australia researchers and their research activities by providing support for Data Tools including SQL, PowerBI, Tableau, and Q/SPSS.
Analysing systems and services, data workflows, and information models, and preparing recommendations and reports for the ACHF project and Creative Australia management
Evaluating, testing and coordinating data tool upgrades, new data tools and patches in consultation with ACHF project and Creative Australia researchers.
Supporting cross-project working groups and events in areas such as Indigenous data governance, reparative description, infrastructure user community engagement, research infrastructure impact tracking, and more.
Implement service promotion activities, including developing and maintaining a community-of-practice and communication activities. This includes running training and engagement activities (both formal and informal).
Contribute to other research data management activities as directed by ACHF project Research Leads.
Skills and Experience:

To be considered you will hold Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

Significant experience providing support for Research Data activities or working as a researcher with complex, confidential and/or sensitive data, in environments such as a University, Cultural, Scientific or Government Organisation at a project or whole-of-organisation level.
Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills in informal and formal contexts. This includes an ability to effectively deliver training and advice to ACHF Researchers.
Proven ability to assess and optimize existing data management processes and procedures, ensuring enhanced effectiveness and promoting interoperability.
Demonstrated subject matter expertise in assigned portfolio area, including a clear understanding of Data Ingestion, Extraction, Curation, Management and Analysis, with a focus on ensuring data integrity, scalability, and compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
Self-driven with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively i.e. autonomously, in small teams and with a wide range of stakeholders, including project managers, researchers, statisticians and IT.
