About us
This is an exciting opportunity to deliver a major new initiative for victims of crime. The FAS is a landmark reform that will replace the judicially based Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal with an administrative scheme that prioritises the needs of victims and supports their recovery from violent crime.
The FAS is by victims and stakeholders and represents a major leap forward in the Victorian Government's response to victims of crime. Established under the Victims of Crime (Financial Assistance Scheme) Act 2022 (the Act) the FAS will provide financial assistance through a simple and easy to navigate process that is fair, sensitive, and responsive to victims' needs. It will acknowledge harm done and be trauma informed, inclusive and culturally safe.
What you will do
As Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) Recognition Support Officer, you will support victims of crime through the Financial Assistance Scheme recognition process.
You will help deliver recognition meetings that are respectful, culturally safe and focused on each person's needs.
You will:
prepare trauma-informed victim recognition statements that acknowledge each person's experience
coordinate complex victim recognition meetings, including travel and venue arrangements
provide compassionate support to victims and their support people before recognition meetings
work with internal teams and external organisations to deliver smooth and respectful services
promote culturally safe, victim-centred practices that support recovery and recognition.
About you
A relevant qualification in community or social services, social work, law, public administration or a related field is desirable. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
You should also have:
strong experience supporting people with complex and sensitive needs using a trauma-informed approach
good understanding of culturally safe practice and a commitment to improving outcomes for Aboriginal people
clear communication skills and confidence managing sensitive conversations with care and respect
sound judgement, problem-solving skills and the ability to improve services through thoughtful ideas.
