The Programmer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing programs that support precision and efficiency in machining and manufacturing processes. This role translates engineering requirements into effective programs, ensures accuracy and consistency in production, and supports continuous improvement initiatives across operations.
This position is designed for a technically skilled professional with strong problem‑solving abilities and a passion for innovation. The Programmer works closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to troubleshoot issues, improve process efficiency, and support new product introduction. Through technical expertise, collaboration, and attention to detail, this role contributes directly to Universal Fabricating’s commitment to precision, innovation, and excellence in manufacturing.
Responsibilities
Checking projects for errors before releasing for fabrication.
Drawing parts in SolidWorks to customer specifications and utilizing customer supplied 3D models and converting to sheet metal parts.
Analyse existing processes to identify opportunities for automation.
Using nesting software for layout of material.
Creating saw and tube laser cutting lists and profiles.
Adhere to all health and safety policies and procedures.
Create documents for organizing job release.
Ensure best practise is used to produce parts.
Participate in team meetings and contribute to project discussions.
Work closely with data entry, estimating, and the purchasing department.
Communicate with the shop managers for best practices when releasing new parts.
Update standards as needed when updates are made to standard process.
Use templates and folder structure as needed on network location for job saving.
Export files to proper machines for cutting materials.
Stay updated with the latest trends and technologies in automation.
Other duties as assigned.
