Job Advert Description
ROLE OVERVIEW:

We are pleased to be recruiting a Policy Officer role in the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) to provide temporary maternity cover for one year.

As a Policy Officer you will support the Head of Strategy, Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) and wider OPCC Management Team by advising on and delivering against police, crime, community safety and justice policy. This is to support delivery of the Commissioner’s priorities in the new 2025-202+ Police, Crime and Justice Plan and OPCC Business Plan.

Day-to-day, you will work on various multi-agency projects, undertake research and analysis, develop strategy and plans, monitor and scrutinise performance, and brief the PCC: offering advice and making recommendations for positive change for the people and communities of Gwent. You will do this by working closely with Gwent Police colleagues and wider partners in other police forces, justice agencies, local authorities, commissioned services, and local, Welsh and UK governments.

The policy areas that this post covers includes violence against women and girls, domestic abuse and sexual violence (VAWDASV), safeguarding and vulnerability-based crime, and how best to support relevant victims and reduce offending. However, there is room to carry out work in other policy areas.
