About the role

Join the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) in a key role that helps shape and deliver impactful mental health policy and advocacy across our state Branches. As the Policy Advocacy Coordinator (Branches), you’ll work closely with Branch Policy Advisors, Branch Committees, and the Bi-national policy team to coordinate national advocacy efforts, develop high-quality policy content, and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders.


This role offers the opportunity to influence mental health policy across jurisdictions, support clinicians and expert members, and contribute to campaigns that make a real difference in people’s lives.


In this role, you will:

Support consultation processes across states and territories, tracking and analysing feedback
Assist with developing submissions, briefings and evidence-based policy positions
Help coordinate cross-Branch advocacy campaigns and legislative responses
Maintain strong working relationships with government departments and health agencies
Provide secretariat support to Branch Committees on policy matters
Monitor trends and reforms, contributing to timely and strategic policy responses
Contribute to work planning, reporting and team collaboration across the College
What you'll bring

A relevant tertiary qualification in public policy, social sciences, health, law or related field
Knowledge of policy development processes and an understanding of government structures
Strong research and analytical skills—quantitative and qualitative
Excellent communication skills with the ability to adapt to different audiences and platforms
Experience managing distinct policy or advocacy projects
Collaborative approach with the ability to work across multiple teams and jurisdictions
(Desirable) Experience working in a membership-based or clinician-led organisation
(Desirable) An interest in or understanding of mental health and health systems
Full working rights in Australia
Some of what’s on offer:

Salary range: $65,363–$81,755 total remuneration package (TRP), inclusive of leave loading and 12% superannuation

Flexible location – work from home or one of our local branches

A paid day off each month for full-time employees

12 weeks of gender-neutral paid parental leave for both primary and secondary caregivers

A values-led, inclusive, and culturally safe workplace where diversity is celebrated
