Qualifications
High school diploma or its equivalent and at least one (1) year of experience in the plumbing trade OR four or more years of experience in the plumbing trade (College or vocational/technical training in the above listed trade can substitute for the required experience)
A valid Driver’s license
Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks
The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes
This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering
Candidates claiming Veterans’ Preference must attach supporting documentation with each submission that includes character of service (for example, DD Form 214 Member Copy #4) along with any other documentation as required by Rule 55A-7, Florida Administrative Code

Repairs, replaces, and checks high and low pressure steam boilers, safety devices, and controls, and cleans boilers, tanks, and water heaters
Reads blueprints, plans and organizes work, prepares reports, supervises inmates, participates in departmental training, and performs other related duties as required

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Walton Correctional Institution in the Maintenance Department.

The mission of Facilities Management and Building Construction at the Florida Department of Corrections is to provide a safe, secure, and efficient environment for staff, inmates, and visitors. This is achieved through the effective management, maintenance, and construction of correctional facilities, ensuring they meet all regulatory standards and support the department's overall mission of public safety and rehabilitation.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

Job Duties

This working position is responsible for the installation and repair of plumbing and associated systems, LP Gas supply, Waste Collection and Potable Water necessary to operate a major institution. This position will also provide on the job training to those inmates he/she supervises in plumbing and associated systems.
