Job Summary:
• Our client is seeking an experienced AWS Platform Engineer to support and scale the cloud platform powering our global e-commerce experiences—specifically on large cruise consumer websites.
• In this role, you will build, manage, and optimize AWS-based platform infrastructure, modern application pipelines, and Kubernetes (EKS) workloads. You will partner closely with application teams to enable rapid, reliable delivery of new digital experiences. This role is ideal for someone who has worked hands-on with AWS, EKS, GitHub-based automation, and who can communicate clearly across teams and stakeholders.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
• Platform Engineering & AWS Infrastructure
• Provision, scale, and maintain cloud infrastructure for global consumer websites using AWS services, AWS CDK, and AWS transformation tooling.
• Support end-to-end platform reliability across production and lower environments.
• Apply Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) best practices for standardization, repeatability, and auditability.
• Kubernetes (EKS) Operations
• Manage and maintain EKS clusters and containerized workloads now powering the majority of Royal Caribbean’s platform.
• Deploy and manage application workloads through GitHub workflows and pipelines.
• Ensure cluster governance, security, scaling, and workload observability.
• CI/CD, GitOps & Deployment
• Build and manage CI/CD workflows using GitHub and GitHub Actions.
• Partner with product and engineering teams to onboard new applications to the platform.
• Support developer teams with GitOps best practices and automated deployment patterns.
• Support & Troubleshooting
• Proactively troubleshoot platform, infrastructure, and application issues across the AWS environment (EKS, Lambda, Elastic Beanstalk, etc.).
• Work with teams to ensure smooth rollouts, stable production operations, and quick resolution of incidents.
• Collaboration, Documentation & Communication
• Work closely with software engineers, security engineers, DevOps teams, and product teams to deliver platform capabilities.
• Document infrastructure, architectures, operational processes, and troubleshooting guides.
• Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders regarding system health, platform changes, and technical decisions.
• Create architecture and system diagrams to communicate infrastructure and application flows.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives around cloud architecture, observability, scaling, and platform standards.
Qualifications
• Amazon EKS (hands-on cluster and workload management experience)
• Strong AWS expertise across infrastructure, services, IaC, and deployment practices
• GitHub experience, including GitHub Actions, branching strategies, and CI/CD pipelines
• Excellent communication skills, able to collaborate across engineering and non-engineering team.
• Experience deploying cloud resources with AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or similar IaC frameworks.
• Experience supporting consumer-facing, high-traffic web workloads.
• Hands-on experience with pipelines, containerization, and microservices architectures.
• Strong problem-solving approach with the ability to make impact-driven decisions.
Nice to Have
• Ability to create system diagrams, architecture visualizations, and technical communication artifacts.
• Experience with observability tools (e.g., Splunk, Datadog, New Relic) and operational excellence best practices.
• Familiarity with Akamai or similar CDN/WAF platforms.
• Knowledge of cloud networking and security best practices.
• Experience supporting large-scale eCommerce platforms or transactional applications.
