About UK Assessment & Qualifications
We are responsible for the delivery of nearly 4 million examination results per annum, including A-Level, GCSE, BTEC and T-levels for students in UK and International centres. Our in-house systems process every learner from registration to marking and certification, in a highly regulated business. We currently operate a hybrid estate of predominantly bespoke systems, with an ongoing strategic transformation programme to migrate from on-prem to cloud based, cost effective, scalable and resilient services.
About the job
Seeking an experienced Oracle Forms and PL/SQL Developer to join Integrated Qualification Service team. The candidate should have a strong background in developing and maintaining Oracle Forms applications and expertise in PL/SQL programming. They will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and deploying Oracle Forms applications, as well as writing and optimizing PL/SQL code with integration with open VMS, DCL, Cloud etc.
Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and enhance Oracle Forms applications based on business requirements and user specifications.
Write and maintain PL/SQL procedures, functions, triggers, and packages to support application logic and database operations.
Perform unit testing and debugging of Oracle Forms applications and PL/SQL code to ensure high-quality deliverables.
Collaborate with business analysts, stakeholders, and end-users to gather requirements and provide technical solutions.
Optimize database performance by analysing and fine-tuning SQL queries, indexes, and data access methods.
Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.
Participate in the full software development life cycle (SDLC), including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance. Should be flexible to adopt Agile/Hybrid methodology.
Document technical specifications, user guides, and other relevant documentation for developed applications.
Stay updated with the latest Oracle Forms and PL/SQL features, technologies, and industry trends.
Forms and DB scripts to be integrated with VMS, DCL & ProCobol.
Identify areas to improve, modernize, automate the system.
Provide on-going support and maintenance of in-house applications using Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, Oracle Forms, VMS, DCL etc.
Conduct Code design and development for larger projects using Oracle SQL, PL/ SQL and Oracle Forms, DCL, ProCobol etc.
Responding in a timely manner to any technical or general questions on Incidents/ Questions / clarification.
Should be flexible to work for Dev / Support or both teams.
Support functions include problem investigation, development, testing and deployment to live.
Guide new members technically & functionally.
Should work as individual contributor or work with the team.
About you
We’d expect that you can demonstrate significant experience of delivery using Oracle Forms, Oracle PL/SQL, with additional skills and experience in ProCOBOL and Unix
Key Skills & Experience
Oracle PL/SQL (Oracle version 11g, 1+c).
Oracle Forms & Reports (Oracle version 12c)
Experience with Oracle PL/SQL Programming & Development including Packages, Procedures and Functions.
Understanding of Scheduler Jobs and Automatic Job Processing.
Code compilation and Execution in Oracle platform.
Design and development experience with strong command on PL/SQL Programming.
Experience with Latest version of Oracle is desirable.
Experience in writing unit test cases and execution.
Experience in requirement refinement, estimation, and solution design.
Prior experience in development, support & upgrade projects.
Flexible to work independently.
Quick learner and Excellent communication skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication.
Desirable Skills & Experience
Oracle Warehouse Builder
Should be ready to work in the Agile based project.
Can be able to handle both development, support & upgrade projects.
Should be flexible to work independently and as a team to fulfil the deliverable /support Incidents quickly & on-time.
Excellent in both verbal and written communication.
Good to have knowledge on GIT library and Jenkins.
All our roles are hybrid working; for this role that means visiting your base office no more than once a week with the possibility of occasional business travel to UK Pearson sites.
For this role there is a requirement to support 24/7/365 on-call operations.
We actively encourage our staff to participate in at least 40 hours of training a year, and offer relevant AWS (Amazon Web Service) training and certification as part of this role.
