Job Title: Safety Officer / Safety Manager – Steel Plant
Department: Health, Safety Environment (HSE)
Reporting To: Plant Head / HSE Head
Role PurposeTo ensure a safe working environment by implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving safety policies, procedures, and practices in compliance with legal and company standards within a steel manufacturing setup.
Key ResponsibilitiesSafety Program Implementation:
Develop and execute comprehensive safety programs and policies to ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Safety Inspections Audits:
Conduct regular inspections, risk assessments, and internal audits to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
Incident Investigation:
Lead thorough investigations of accidents or near-misses to identify root causes and implement corrective/preventive measures.
Training Awareness:
Deliver safety training programs, including induction for new hires and periodic refresher courses to foster a safety-conscious culture.
Emergency Preparedness:
Work with plant leadership to develop emergency response plans and conduct drills to ensure preparedness for potential incidents.
Data Monitoring Reporting:
Track and analyze safety KPIs, incident rates, and trends; prepare reports for management with insights and improvement suggestions.
PPE Equipment Management:
Ensure the availability, proper usage, and maintenance of all safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Regulatory Compliance:
Stay up to date with safety regulations and industry best practices, particularly relevant to the steel manufacturing industry.
Safety Culture Promotion:
Champion a proactive safety culture, driving employee engagement and continuous improvement in safety practices.
Budget Management:
Assist in the planning and management of the safety department’s budget to ensure effective resource allocation.
Qualifications ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Industrial Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field
Certification in safety management (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent) preferred
years of experience in plant/industrial safety, preferably in the steel or heavy manufacturing industry
Skills CompetenciesStrong knowledge of safety regulations and compliance requirements
Excellent problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
Effective communication and training delivery skills
Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
