This position is casual. The Bow Valley Adult Learning Centre currently provides classes Monday -Thursday in the late afternoon/ evening. The successful candidate can choose if they prefer to hold a three hour class one evening each week (6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.) or two classes each week (either 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.). If once per week it will be an eight week term, twice per week will be a six week term; providing 24 hours of instructional time.
Our instructors are paid for a half-hour of prep time for each hour of instructional time.
We value diversity and inclusion! This position is a permanent; however we do encourage Working Holiday Visa holders to apply. While the successful candidate does not need to have French as their first language, they must have a high level of French language knowledge and pronunciation skills. The successful candidate must have either a valid certificate to instruct French as an additional language and knowledge of adult education, or be a licensed teacher.
Duties:
-Prepare a syllabus for each term of instruction
- Plan and facilitate interactive online French conversation classes, ensuring learners become comfortable in conversing in French in daily (including workplace) basic conversations.
- Adapt instructional methods and materials to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Use a variety of instructional techniques, including group work, pair work, and individual activities.
- Incorporate technology into the online classroom to enhance learning experiences.
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of attendance
-Follow Knowles' Principles of Adult Learning
-Complete an Instructor report at the end of each term
Experience:
- Previous experience teaching French as an additional language is preferred.
- Familiarity with different teaching methodologies and resources for French learners.
- Experience with online teaching/facilitation
- Experience working with adult learners is preferred.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively engage learners in the learning process.
- A passion for life-long learning and a desire to help learners succeed.
