Salary – Sitting fees for up to four meetings per year - (in line with the NSW Government Boards and Committees Remuneration Framework).
Your role
The purpose of the NSW Ministerial Advisory Council on Ageing (MACA) is to support the Minister for Seniors in achieving healthy, active, and productive ageing outcomes for the people of NSW.
This purpose directly aligns with the Ageing Well in NSW: Seniors Strategy 2021–2031, which seeks to ensure that all older people in NSW can experience the benefits of living longer and enjoy opportunities to participate in, contribute to, and be included in their communities.
The Strategy’s four focus areas—living in age‑friendly environments, participating in inclusive communities, staying safe, active, and healthy, and being resilient and informed—provide the framework through which MACA offers its advice and supports whole‑of‑government efforts to enhance the well-being of older people across NSW.

What you will do
As part of the Ministerial Advisory Council on Ageing (MACA), you will:
Provide strategic advise the Minister for Seniors on:
1.1 Emerging and priority issues affecting the needs, interests, and well-being of older people in NSW, and the impact of population ageing, including advising on policy, program, and system improvements to support positive outcomes for older people, their families, and communities.
1.2 Facilitate informed discussion on key issues affecting older people including opportunities for reform, innovation, and improvement across whole of government and the community.
1.3 Monitor and analyse the impact of relevant policies, programs, initiatives, and broader social, economic, and demographic trends on older people in NSW and provide timely advice where necessary.
1.4 Maintain a focus on the needs, interests and well-being of older people who are disadvantaged and vulnerable, or at greater risk of exclusion, ensuring equity considerations are embedded in advice.
1.5 Engage and consult with older people, representative organisations and other key stakeholders to inform advice on emerging issues, lived experience and priority policy areas.
You will work as part of an Advisory Committee of up to twelve (12) members including the Chair and Deputy-Chair. The MACA meets four (4) times per year in Sydney and/or online. The Department of Communities and Justice provides strategic secretariat support for the MACA including organising travel and related expenses to attend meetings.
What we are looking for
Members will be selected so that the Council includes a wide range of experience, expertise, networks, and interests relevant to ageing. We are particularly encouraging applications from people in rural areas, culturally and linguistically diverse and indigenous backgrounds.
Members are expected to have strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to contribute constructively to strategic discussions, deliberations, and targeted working groups. They will demonstrate an understanding of the diverse circumstances and lived experiences of older people across NSW, and the capacity to analyse complex policy issues, consider system‑level impacts, and provide balanced, evidence‑informed advice.
Members are also expected to have knowledge of NSW Government policies and programs relevant to ageing, and an appreciation of government decision‑making processes, enabling them to contribute effectively to the Council’s role in supporting whole‑of‑government efforts to improve outcomes for older people.

Conflict of Interest
Members of the Ministerial Advisory Council on Ageing (MACA) are expected to act in the public interest and in accordance with the principles set out in the relevant Ministerial Charter, including integrity, transparency, and accountability.
Applicants must be willing and able to identify, disclose, and appropriately manage any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest arising from their personal, professional, or financial circumstances.
Successful applicants will be required to:
Declare interests upon appointment and on an ongoing basis
Comply with conflict-of-interest requirements as set out in the Ministerial Charter and applicable NSW Government and Department of Communities and Justice policies
Manage conflicts as directed, which may include limiting participation in discussions or decisions where a conflict exists
The existence of a conflict of interest does not automatically preclude appointment, however, full disclosure and effective management of conflicts are essential to maintaining public confidence and the integrity of the Council’s advice.
Applicants are required to declare any real, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest as part of the recruitment process. Please note that some conflicts may not be able to be mitigated and may preclude appointment.
