Job Description

What you'll actually own You design the physical parts that make Zooly real: CAD, prototypes, fixtures, tolerance analyses, supplier packages, and mechanical test documentation across the hip, knee, and shoulder products. When a sensor needs a housing, an instrument needs an attachment, or a test needs a fixture, that is your work. You build on one shared platform, so good design gets reused.

The best mechanical design is creative and simple at once. If our hardware is precise, manufacturable, and easy to build on, it will be in part because of the parts you designed. Where the business is 12 months after you join If this hire goes the way we intend, one year from now:
• You have shipped mechanical designs and fixtures that the hip, knee, and shoulder products rely on.
• Your CAD, drawings, and supplier packages are clean, controlled, and ready to build from.
• You deliver predictably within the shared platform cadence.
• You and the US engineers work as one team across overlapping hours.

About Zooly Zooly

Labs is on a mission to make advanced surgical guidance more accessible for joint replacement surgery. Joint replacement can restore mobility and quality of life, yet surgeons often have limited objective information during the procedure to assess joint behavior and guide decisions. We build AI-guided technology that combines intelligent sensing, real-time data, and decision support with familiar surgical workflows and standard instruments, without large capital equipment.

We are an early-stage company building a scalable platform across hip, knee, and shoulder. How we work at Zooly Patient-driven. Design-obsessed. We're an in-person team of curious, driven people who care about getting the details right, because there's a patient on the table counting on us.

A few beliefs shape how we build, and this role lives at the center of them.
• Build it together. We want people who want to be in the room, solving hard problems face to face. The camaraderie is not a perk, it is how we do our best work.
• Master your craft. We invest in people who go deep. There is no ceiling that forces a great engineer or designer into management to advance. Go as far into your craft as you want.
• Act like an owner. We take responsibility for our decisions and how we communicate, we think long-term, and we bias toward action. What this role is really like This is a hands-on role at a fast-growing startup racing real deadlines. You will model a part, print or machine it, test it, and revise it based on what the bench tells you, not what the model predicted. You will talk to suppliers and sweat tolerances. If you want to design in isolation and throw drawings over a wall, this is not the role. If you love building and iterating real parts, it is.

What you'll do - Create and revise CAD, drawings, BOMs, prototypes, fixtures, tolerance analyses, supplier packages, and mechanical test documentation.
• Build reusable platform modules instead of one-off, joint-specific solutions wherever you can.
• Take part in sprint planning, design reviews, test planning, and documentation.
• Investigate defects and failures and write up root cause and the fix.
• Keep configuration control, test evidence, and clean engineering records.
• Work closely with the product engineers, the US platform leads, quality/regulatory contributors, and suppliers. What you need to be able to do These are capabilities, not credentials. If you can do these things, we want to talk regardless of how many years it took you to get here.
• You have done product development with 3D CAD, engineering drawings, tolerance analysis, prototyping, testing, and supplier interaction.
• You are strong with SolidWorks or a comparable CAD platform, and you know GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and configuration-controlled documentation.
• You have practical knowledge of plastics, metals, fasteners, adhesives, seals, additive manufacturing, machining, and injection-molding design.
• You can build, inspect, test, troubleshoot, and iterate prototypes and fixtures against real test results.
• You document clearly, solve problems, and communicate well with suppliers.
• A degree in mechanical or biomedical engineering, mechatronics, or a related field is common in people who do this well, but the ability above matters more than the diploma. What would make you a strong fit - Medical-device, orthopaedic instrument, robotics, precision-mechanism, or consumer-electronics development experience.
• Experience with sterilization-compatible materials, biocompatibility constraints, sealing, disposable devices, injection molding, or DFM/DFA.
• Experience designing verification fixtures or supporting pilot manufacturing and design transfer.
• Familiarity with medical-device design controls and risk management.
