We are seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to take on the role of Manager – Te Reo Kairangi and He Waka Hiringa, responsible for our postgraduate programmes in Te Tohu Paerua oTe Reo Kairangi (Master of Te Reo Māori) and He Waka Hiringa (Master of Applied Indigenous Knowledge). This leadership position offers an exciting opportunity to influence the delivery of high-quality, kaupapa Māori-based postgraduate education that advances te reo Māori revitalisation and Indigenous knowledge systems, empowering tauira and strengthening communities.

Your day-to-day responsibilities include oversight and monitoring of the delivery of teaching and learning, assessment, quality assurance, and academic administration practices within your team. A key part of your mahi will be building a strong rangahau culture that honours both mātauranga Māori and Indigenous research methodologies, integrating research-informed teaching practices, and supporting kaiako to thrive at the postgraduate level. You'll work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders, including iwi, hapū, whānau, and Indigenous knowledge holders, to maintain strong relationships and uphold the mana of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa.

This is a permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) position based at any one of our sites in Aotearoa.

Mōu About you
In this role, you will lead both masters programmes with a focus on academic excellence, cultural integrity, and the advancement of te reo Māori and mātauranga Māori. You'll oversee programme design and delivery, ensuring compliance with NZQA standards while fostering innovation and continuous improvement at the postgraduate level, with particular emphasis on Indigenous pedagogies and research approaches.

You will have:

PhD or Masters degree with significant professional, research, or practice-based experience in te reo Māori, mātauranga Māori, Indigenous knowledge systems, or related disciplines
Additional qualifications in adult tertiary teaching (level 5), NZ Certificate in Assessment Practice (level 4), quality assurance, or academic programme leadership are advantageous
5+ years teaching experience in the tertiary education sector
Demonstrated expertise and capability in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga
5+ years' experience in educational leadership and management in the tertiary education sector, preferably at postgraduate level
5+ years teaching experience in the tertiary education sector, with demonstrated experience in postgraduate supervision, research mentorship, and Indigenous research methodologies
Strong understanding of kaupapa Māori research approaches and the ability to support tauira in conducting research that advances te reo Māori and mātauranga Māori
