Job Description

Full job description
Blackbird Interactive is a creative-fueled, future-driven, independent game studio where the best talent in the industry can find long-term careers to help grow their abilities while working on a wide range of projects, which encompass world-class IPs as well as our own creations across multiple genres.
Our studio operates as a remote-first workplace, offering flexible work arrangements.
At this time, we are only able to hire candidates who are legally eligible to work in Canada and reside within Canada.
The Manager of Finance Operations & Compliance is responsible for maintaining the financial integrity and operational rigor across our finance team. This role combines core accounting oversight with financial compliance and systems governance. The ideal candidate will build structure around how financial information flows from project and operational teams into accounting systems—ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to tax and regulatory requirements.
What You'll Own
Manage the general ledger, ensuring accurate and timely preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements.
Oversee core accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, vendor payments, and payroll (employees and contractors). Lead all aspects of tax compliance (corporate filings, GST/HST, IDMTC, SR&ED) and support external audits and government reporting. Track and manage cash flow, foreign exchange activity, and treasury operations to ensure liquidity and risk control. Maintain structured templates and systems (e.g., GL entries, vendor tracking, payroll, invoicing) to standardize finance workflows. Oversee revenue recognition and milestone billing for co-development and partnership contracts. Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutions to support ongoing compliance and reporting requirements.
Continuously improve financial processes, ensuring scalability, accuracy, and control as the company grows.
Required Experience
CPA designation (or equivalent) strongly preferred.

5+ years of progressive finance or accounting experience, ideally in a project-based or creative production environment, external audit experience would also be beneficial.

Demonstrated experience in managing compliance programs, tax filings, and financial audits.
