This position provide customer focused regulatory enforcement of Council’s local laws with an emphasis on
education, collaboration, information and self regulation.


Knowledge of statutory requirements relevant to role including the Local Government Act 200+
and Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008.
Substantial experience in Local Law enforcement and interpretation including the ability to apply
laws reasonably and with discretion in an outcomes and education focused manner.
Demonstrated experience in running, reporting and closing regulatory investigations.
Demonstrated skills and experience in participating in a multidisciplinary team in an environment
of rapid change and variable work priorities.
Proven ability to monitor work flows and initiate work autonomously.
Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised with limited direction and exercise sound judgement
in decision making and problem solving.
Certificate IV in Government (Investigation) or equivalent is desirable.
Certificate in Animal Management/ Local Government/ Statutory Compliance is desirable.
High level of written and verbal communication skills and the ability to liaise with members of
the public and build effective relationships.
Demonstrated conflict management skills.
Demonstrated experience in animal control and behaviour and ability to safely handle a various
type of animals.
Must be willing to obtain an Authorised Persons card within probationary period.
Hold a current driver's licence and General Construction Induction QLD (White Card).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is responsible for the following areas and includes but is not limited to:

Undertaking the enforcement of Council’s Local Laws.
Investigating and resolve complaints, including the serving of notices to seek compliance with
Council’s Local Laws and State legislation relevant to the position.
Issuing infringement notices ensuring compliance with Local Laws and relevant legislation.
Delivering education programs to the community focusing community safety, awareness and
responsible pet ownership.



Understanding and enforcing Council’s impound procedures in relation to Local Laws, and
relevant State legislation.
Undertaking patrols of both private and Council owned land for breaches of Local Laws and take
action to resolve those breaches in accordance with relevant policies and legislation.
Animal handling including aggressive dogs.
Maintaining privacy and confidentiality and ability to exercise discretion in a professional manner
at all times.
Assisting in the development and maintenance of relevant policies and procedures.
Carrying out investigations and gathering evidence e.g: interview victims/offenders/witnesses,
take photographic evidence, issue compliance notices, penalty infringement notices and prepare
reports.

Writing investigation reports.
Participating in weekly on call roster and attend to emergent complaints and initiate corrective
actions.
Following any other lawful and reasonable directives provided by your Supervisor or more senior
officer.

Out of ordinary hours work may be required. Council reserves the right to change these duties at any time.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

Consistently meets the requirements of the role including the application of policy and procedures
and completing work to the necessary standard of quality in a timely manner.
Investigations are conducted in accordance with procedure and in a timely manner.
Procedures are consistently followed.
Customer requests are investigated and addressed in a timely manner.
Dog attack investigations are completed within 14 days.
Demonstrate teamwork and working effectively unsupervised.
High level of participation and commitment to team goals.
Promotes and complies with Council policies and procedures.
