Library Assistant (Cannon’s Creek)
Job Description
As a result of our new premises, we have three new part-time roles available.
The three roles available would work the following hours, and you would need to commit to working these shifts each week.
Monday through Thursday 11:30am – 3:30pm at Cannons Creek Library (16 hours per week)
Friday 11:30am – 3:30pm, Saturday 9:00am – 1:00pm at Cannons Creek Library (8 hours per week)
Wednesday through Friday 11:30am – 3:30pm at Porirua City Library, Saturday 9:00 – 1:00pm at Cannons Creek Library (16 hours per week)

All about the roles
We are looking for someone who is community minded with previous customer service experience, who can deliver a great experience for our diverse community. If you can speak a second language such as Arabic, or one of the Pasifika languages this would be ideal.
You will be responsible for:
Providing customer focused, innovated and effective library services
Assisting with enquiries from our users, including digital/computer support, and reference enquiries
Helping deliver children’s activities
Creating a welcoming and stimulating environment for visitors to the library
General front desk duties such as answering general customer queries and issuing and returning items
Shelving returned items
Assisting with the opening and closing of the library as needed.
Porirua City is a living wage accredited employer and the hourly rate for this position is $30.87.

You’ll need to show us that you:
have previous experience working in a library or customer service environment
will focus on customer service being at the heart of everything you do
have great technology and digital skills
are calm, capable and resilient
are organised, reliable and committed to working as part of a team
are methodical and conscientious in your approach to work
can pass a police safety check
