Our department makes a difference…
The Executive Council Office is the centre of excellence for the Government of Yukon. We are leaders in the modernization of government standards and processes. We provide central strategic advice to advance government priorities through policy development, communications, intergovernmental relations, Indigenous relations, major project management, youth initiatives, Indigenous and scientific knowledge science and by supporting the Water Board and the Commissioner’s Office. We also provide direct support to the Premier and Cabinet.
The opportunity…
The Executive Council Office is looking for Legal Counsel to provide solicitor and litigation services for the Yukon Water Board (YWB) and Secretariat. Established under the Waters Act, the Yukon Water Board regulates the use of water and deposit of waste to water. It is also responsible for certain functions under the Placer Mining Act.
As in house Legal Counsel you will work independently of lawyers in the Department of Justice and are responsible for ensuring lawful administration of Water Board practices and processes independent from Government of Yukon. If you possess excellent judgement with a capacity to make decisions in a challenging, fast paced, deadline-oriented environment, we want to hear from you!
Reporting to the Director, Yukon Water Board Secretariat, your primary duties will include advising the Board, the Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretariat staff on all facets of YWB operations, associated laws, regulations, acts and agreements.
