The Lab Technician is responsible for conducting routine and specialized tests in a laboratory setting, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of results to support clinical diagnoses and patient care. This role involves handling laboratory equipment, preparing specimens, and maintaining adherence to safety and quality protocols.

Key Responsibilities:1. Sample Collection and Preparation:
• Collect, label, and prepare patient specimens (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) for testing.
• Ensure proper handling, storage, and transportation of specimens in accordance with laboratory protocols.

2. Laboratory Testing:
• Perform routine and specialized diagnostic tests as prescribed by physicians or protocols.
• Operate and calibrate laboratory equipment such as microscopes, centrifuges, and analyzers.
• Ensure timely and accurate recording of test results.

3. Quality Control and Assurance:
• Conduct regular quality control checks on laboratory tests and equipment.
• Adhere to internal quality management systems and external accreditation standards (e.g., NABL, CAP).
• Identify and resolve discrepancies or errors in testing procedures or results.

4. Documentation and Reporting:
• Maintain detailed records of tests conducted, results obtained, and observations.
• Report test results promptly and accurately to physicians or other medical personnel.
• Document and report any issues or incidents that arise during testing.

5. Equipment Maintenance:
• Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments.
• Ensure laboratory equipment is clean, sterilized, and functioning properly.
• Coordinate with service providers for repairs or calibration when necessary.

6. Compliance and Safety:
• Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
• Comply with infection control measures and proper disposal of biohazard materials.
• Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and best practices in laboratory operations.

7. Collaboration and Training:
• Work collaboratively with other laboratory staff, nurses, and physicians to ensure seamless patient care.
• Provide guidance or training to junior staff or interns as needed.

Qualifications:Education and Experience:
• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT or BMLT) or equivalent qualification.
• Relevant certification or licensing as required by local regulations.
• 2–4 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting (preferred).

Skills and Competencies:
• Strong understanding of laboratory techniques and testing procedures.
• Proficiency in operating laboratory instruments and software.
• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Familiarity with quality control standards and safety regulations in healthcare.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
• Accuracy and timeliness of test results.
• Adherence to quality and safety protocols.
• Equipment downtime and maintenance efficiency.
• Patient and physician satisfaction with lab services.
