Job Description
Kaupapa Māori Design Advisor
Play a key role in ensuring our Mana Whenua and wider Māori hapori see themselves reflected in our spaces and initiatives, including Te Wai Takamori o Te Awa Kairangi | RiverLink.
About the Role
As our Kaupapa Māori Design Advisor, you will work with our Urban Design and other Council teams to bring a te ao Māori perspective to our projects. You will act as the connector between our designers and our Kāhui Mana Whenua and other Māori stakeholders. In this role, you will:
Engage with Mana Whenua and iwi to ensure projects embed their stories, aspirations and Māori culture.
Build a close working relationships with Te Tira Māori.
Commission “cultural narratives” to support the planning and design of projects.
Plan, design and deliver urban design projects.
Work with various Council teams to help them engage with Mana Whenua, marae and iwi.
About You
You are a confident designer (for example an urban designer or landscape architect). You have a working knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, tikanga Māori, Te Ao Māori, and are willing to continue learning Te Reo Māori. You thrive on collaboration and building trust. You have strong communications and relationship management skills.
You will bring:
Demonstrated experience in a designer role.
Proficient design and visual skills, including technical drawing and presentation.
Ability to clearly articulate ideas and present design concepts to a range of stakeholders.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication.
Ability to work collegially with various internal teams and external stakeholders.
