The D. E. Shaw group seeks a talented attorney specializing in intellectual property and technology transactions to join its Legal & Compliance team. This individual will become part of a small, highly skilled team responsible for a wide range of commercial contracts.
What you’ll do day-to-day
Draft, review, and negotiate data and software license agreements.
Handle various technology, purchase, service, and consulting agreements.
Advise financial and technology-oriented businesses within the firm on intellectual property matters and related legal issues
Who we’re looking for
A law degree, an impressive record of academic achievement, and at least four years of experience in-house and/or at a law firm; more senior candidates, including those with 15+ years of experience, are also encouraged to apply.
Experience reviewing and negotiating licensing, technology, and other commercial contracts, as well as advising clients on intellectual property issues and contract interpretation.
Ability to manage competing priorities and work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent analytical abilities, sound judgment, keen attention to detail, an impressive work ethic, and proven drafting, communication, and organizational skills.
Familiarity with commercial software and financial and/or market data licenses is preferred; experience with issues relating to open source software and/or generative artificial intelligence is a plus, but not required.
The expected annual base salary for this position is $250,000 to $325,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
