Opportunity
MacEwan University is seeking an Indigenous Communications Coordinator for a full-time continuing opportunity with the kihêw waciston Indigenous Centre.

This position is responsible for developing and implementing marketing and communications strategies that promote the mission, programs, services, and initiatives of kihêw waciston. Working collaboratively with the Program Coordinator, Relative in Residence, Indigenous Engagement Lead, and other team members, the role supports shared projects and organizational goals. The position also liaises with MacEwan University's Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM) and Web Services to maintain the kihêw waciston website, while organizing and conducting tours and providing communications and promotional support for programs, events, and initiatives.

Key responsibilities include:

Creating high-quality, engaging content for social media platforms, (Instagram, Facebook, and X/ Twitter); that reflects Indigenous cultural protocol and community values;
Applying institutional branding and visual guidelines in collaboration with the Manager and Program;
Managing kihêw waciston social media accounts, including posting monitoring engagement and responds to comments and messages in a timely and professional manner;
Working with the Program Coordinator in disseminating communications and marketing plans for programs, events and initiatives;
Scheduling and coordinating Centre tours and related communications;
Liaising with kihêw waciston team members to collaborate on projects to ensure the successful delivery of marketing and communications strategies and programs;
Developing marketing, engagement and communications support in the areas of research, writing, and creative thinking that is in alignment with Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing;
Supporting student recruitment and community engagement initiatives, with attention to Indigenous students and allies; and
Coordinating logistics, execution, marketing, and communications activities for university-wide events as assigned.
Skills
You will have:

Effective communication and writing skills with the ability to edit, proofread, adapt tone and messaging, and draft a variety of materials;
Cultural competence and Indigenous knowledge in order to create appropriate communications and engagement strategies;
Strong collaboration and relationship management skills; and
Event coordination skills.
Qualifications
A minimum of a diploma in communications, marketing, Indigenous studies, or related field.
A minimum of 2 years of experience in communications, marketing, social media coordination, event coordination, or related work experience.
A minimum of 1 year of experience working in an environment promoting Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
