Job Description

An exciting opportunity have been created for a talented General Manager to launch the soon to be opened The Clements Hotel located in the heart of Cambridge. The Clements is Cambridge’s most iconic Hotel. A stunning renovation of a heritage building formerly known as the Masonic Hotel and built in 1+11, this project has truly been a labour of love. The sensitively restored and renovated building is being transformed into a 5-star boutique hotel featuring 2+ guest rooms and complemented by extensive F&B operations which are all due to open February 2026.

Steeped in history, this property is iconic and promises to become a popular weekend dining destination with locals; the plush basement bar will have a prohibition era vibe with an extensive cocktail list and the restaurant serves contemporary cuisine, inspired by the local Cambridge food scene, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Original features within the hotel include a magnificent sweeping staircase, stunning stained-glass windows, parquet flooring, high ceilings, and luxurious furnishings creating a refined and relaxed atmosphere. The Clements Hotel promises to be the perfect backdrop for an indulgent and elegant break in the charming and popular town of Cambridge.

As the General Manager, you will play a pivotal role in creating and managing all aspects of this prestigious property, ensuring exceptional guest experiences, and driving its success. You will be managing all aspects of the day-to-day operations reporting directly to Capstone Hotel Management, ensuring alignment with the overall strategic and operating plan for the business.



The successful applicant will have strong interpersonal skills, must work well in a team environment, and can work well under pressure. This includes having well developed organizational and time management skills, being a flexible and responsive manager and one that is hands on and projects both a positive and approachable manner.

You will be accountable for the performance and compliance of the property, monitoring the quality and consistency of service and product delivery, to ensure that the property continuously meets and improves service standards whilst driving sales and achieving budget expectations.



Responsibilities

Outstanding leadership skills, previous experience managing a team, recruiting, rostering, training and supervising staff along with HR experience in all aspects.
Lead and motivate a diverse team of professionals, fostering a positive work environment and encouraging personal growth and development.
A strong understanding of the P&L statement and can react with impactful strategies, reporting directly to Capstone Hotel Management.
Ensure that monthly financials for all departments are on target and accurate, reporting directly to Capstone Hotel Management.
Develop and implement effective operational policies and procedures to ensure seamless guest experiences.
Managing established systems that are set up to comply with local council directives and regulations, including septic and water testing.
Maximising room yield and revenue through innovative sales practices.
Excellent, high quality customer service, ensuring positive guest experiences.
Handling complaints and overseeing the service recovery procedures.
Ensure exceptionally high and consistent standards are met throughout the hotel.
To hold regular briefings and meetings with the team and departments.
Understanding of current Health & Safety obligations, ensuring the Hotel is fully compliant to the SOP's, Policies, procedures, and Service Standards.




Qualifications:

Previous experience in a similar role.


Strong knowledge of hotel operations, including Front Office, Housekeeping, Food and Beverage, Conference and Events, and Maintenance.


Proven track record of successfully leading and developing teams, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


Demonstrated ability to drive revenue growth, manage budgets, and achieve financial targets.


Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on delivering exceptional guest experiences.


Solid understanding of industry trends, customer preferences, and competitive market dynamics.
