Position Overview: The General Counsel is a key leadership role responsible for providing legal guidance and oversight within our sports business organization. This position reports directly to the executive team and plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with legal requirements and managing legal matters.
Responsibilities:
Legal Advisory:
Advise on a wide range of legal matters related to the business, including contracts, policies, and regulatory compliance.
Collaborate with other departments (finance, marketing, etc.) to ensure legal alignment with organizational goals.
Contract Negotiation:
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and sponsorships.
Ensure favorable terms for the organization while minimizing legal risks.
Compliance:
Monitor and ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
Stay informed about changes in sports law and adapt organizational practices accordingly.
Dispute Resolution:
Handle legal disputes, including negotiations, settlements, and litigation if necessary.
Work closely with external legal counsel when required.
Risk Management:
Identify legal risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
Provide proactive advice to prevent legal issues.
Policy Development:
Develop and update organizational policies related to legal matters.
Ensure consistent implementation across the organization.
Qualifications:
Law degree (LL.B/J.D.) from a recognized institution.
Member in good standing with the Canadian Bar Association.
Skills and Attributes:
Excellent analytical skills and ability to provide practical solutions.
Strong communication (written and verbal) and negotiation skills.
Detail-oriented with a high degree of professional ethics.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Pay: $100,000.00-$130,000.00 per year
