Full Stack Developer (Web Applications & Systems Integration)
Job Description
Print and Cheques Now Inc. is seeking a capable, resourceful, and self-directed Full Stack Developer to join our team in Calgary.
This is a hands-on role focused on improving, stabilizing, and extending existing internal systems, while also building new features and integrations that support business operations and growth.
A significant portion of your work will involve learning and working within existing codebases, understanding how they function, and extending them in a practical, maintainable way.
You will be the only in-house developer, so the ability to work independently, manage priorities, and solve problems without constant direction is essential.
You will own how systems evolve over time — not just how tasks are completed.
What You Will Own
You are accountable for the performance, reliability, and evolution of our internal systems.
This includes:
Maintaining, understanding, and improving existing internal codebases
Developing new features using PHP, JavaScript, MySQL/MariaDB, Node.js / Next.js
Building and extending integrations with third-party platforms and APIs
Designing and implementing RESTful APIs
Writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code
Troubleshooting, debugging, and optimizing system performance
Translating business requirements into practical technical solutions
Reducing manual work through automation and improved system design
Creating structure where needed (documentation, workflows, playbooks, tutorials)

Learn core systems, workflows, and codebases
Set up development environment and begin contributing fixes/improvements
Identify key risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities

Take ownership of active systems and tasks
Deliver meaningful improvements (performance, reliability, usability)
Build or improve at least one integration or internal tool
Days 60–90
Independently lead development of a meaningful improvement or feature
Reduce operational bottlenecks
Begin introducing improvements to structure, automation, or tooling

Working Environment & Expectations
You will be the only in-house developer
You will spend significant time working within existing production systems
You are expected to learn quickly and work independently
You will need to make decisions and take ownership of outcomes
You must be comfortable working with incomplete information and evolving requirements
Technical Environment
You will be working across a mixed environment including:
PHP (CodeIgniter)
JavaScript (Vanilla, Node.js, , jQuery, bootStrap)
Postman
SSH
MySQL / MariaDB
Ubuntu / Linux and Windows
GitHub (version control and collaboration)
Additional Responsibilities
Work within Ubuntu/Linux and Windows environments
Troubleshoot, bug fix releases in test environment before release
Manage GitHub repos and improve release structure
Manage tasks, priorities, and deadlines independently
Identify issues, propose solutions, and execute with minimal oversight
Provide occasional support for PC, printer, and network troubleshooting
Qualifications
Degree, diploma, or equivalent experience in Computer Science or a related field
Proven experience as a Full Stack Developer or similar role
Strong proficiency in: PHP, MySQL / MariaDB, JavaScript (vanilla), Node.js, Next.js
Strong working knowledge of Ubuntu/Linux and Windows environments
Experience in Mac OS a bonus
Experience with GitHub and version control workflows
Strong understanding of REST API design and integrations
Experience integrating third-party APIs and systems
Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively
Must be able to commute to office in Calgary, AB
Nice to Have
Experience working with or maintaining legacy or custom-built systems
Familiarity with Windows Server, MacOS, ChromeOS, printer, and basic network troubleshooting
Experience with internal business systems, e-commerce platforms, or print workflows
Experience using AI tools (ChatGPT, Copilot) in development workflows
Experience working with Large Language Models (LLMs), including:
API integrations (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.)
Prompt engineering and structured outputs
Building AI-assisted features or automations

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $54,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
