About Life Shed

Life Shed supports young people aged 6–20+ who face barriers to education, emotional wellbeing, engagement, and personal development. Through outdoor learning, mentoring, and therapeutic interventions, we help young people develop confidence, resilience, independence, and positive relationships.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate, and skilled Forest School Instructor to join our team and deliver inspiring outdoor learning experiences that support young people to thrive.

The Role

As a Forest School Instructor, you will lead and facilitate engaging outdoor learning sessions for young people with a range of social, emotional, behavioural, and educational needs. Using Forest School principles, you will create safe, nurturing, and learner-led opportunities that encourage exploration, creativity, personal growth, and emotional wellbeing.

You will develop strong, trust-based relationships with young people whilst promoting confidence, resilience, problem-solving skills, and a connection with nature.

Due to the nature of our provision, the successful candidate may be required to transport young people safely to and from sessions, helping to remove barriers to participation and increase accessibility.

Key Responsibilities

Plan, deliver, and evaluate high-quality Forest School sessions in line with Forest School principles.
Create safe, engaging, and inclusive outdoor learning experiences that meet the individual needs of each young person.
Support young people to develop confidence, emotional regulation, independence, social skills, and resilience through nature-based activities.
Build positive, trust-based relationships with young people and provide consistent encouragement and support.
Carry out site risk assessments and maintain high standards of health and safety in outdoor environments.
Ensure all tools, equipment, and resources are used safely and appropriately.
Promote and maintain excellent safeguarding practices at all times.
Manage and positively support challenging behaviours in line with organisational policies.
Work collaboratively with families, schools, local authorities, and partner agencies.
Maintain accurate records, observations, assessments, and progress reports.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of outdoor learning environments and Forest School sites.
Essential Requirements

Level 3 Forest School Instructor qualification.
Full UK driving licence and access to an appropriate / reliable vehicle.
Experience working with children and young people.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Passion for outdoor learning and supporting young people to achieve positive outcomes.
Desirable Requirements

Experience supporting young people with SEND, SEMH needs, additional needs, or challenging behaviours.
Outdoor first aid qualification.
Experience of delivering therapeutic or nature-based interventions.
Knowledge of trauma-informed and person-centred approaches.
Relevant qualifications in education, youth work, childcare, outdoor education, or related fields.

Job Types: 5 days a week full-time or term-time only
