Role
The First Aid Assistant supports the effective operation of Balwyn High School's First Aid service by providing first aid assistance to students, maintaining accurate records, supporting medication administration processes, liaising with parents and carers, and undertaking a range of administrative duties associated with the day-to-day operation of First Aid.
The role works collaboratively with the First Aid Officer and Wellbeing Team to ensure students receive timely care and support throughout the school day.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Student Care and First Aid Support
Provide first aid assistance to students presenting to First Aid in accordance with school procedures.
Assess and respond to routine student presentations requiring basic first aid treatment and care.
Escalate complex, ongoing or serious medical matters to the First Aid Officer, leadership staff or emergency services as appropriate.
Assist with the supervision and monitoring of students who are unwell or recovering prior to returning to class or being collected by a parent/carer.
Support the administration of student medications in accordance with school procedures.
Contact parents/carers regarding student illness, injury or collection requirements.
Administration and Record Keeping
Maintain accurate records of all student presentations using the school's student management systems.
Maintain student medical records, care plans and medication documentation as directed.
Assist with the preparation and maintenance of First Aid documentation, reports and correspondence.
Monitor and maintain first aid supplies, equipment and consumables.
Assist with ordering, stock control and inventory management for the First Aid Centre.
Support compliance with school policies and procedures relating to student health and first aid.
Operational Support
Assist in maintaining a safe, organised and welcoming First Aid environment.
Support the coordination of student health-related appointments and communications.
Liaise with teaching and education support staff regarding student wellbeing and first aid matters.
Provide administrative support to the Wellbeing Team as required.
Undertake other duties consistent with the classification and responsibilities of the role.
Responsibilities During First Aid Officer Absences
When the First Aid Officer is not in attendance, the First Aid Assistant may receive higher duties and assume responsibility for the day-to-day operation of First Aid, including coordinating first aid responses, making operational decisions and escalating matters to leadership as required.
Qualifications
Current Level 2 First Aid Certificate.
Current CPR qualification.
Current Employee Working with Children Check.
Desirable
Experience working in a school, healthcare, community services or customer service environment.
Experience using Compass or similar student management systems.
