Primary objective
Provide high quality financial accounting, reporting and governance services across two departments, ensuring compliance with
Australian Accounting Standards, Treasurer’s Directions and Northern Territory legislative and policy guidelines while providing
professional financial advice to support informed decision-making

Context statement
The Finance and Facilities unit provides shared corporate services to the Department of Children and Families and the Department
of People, Sport and Culture, delivering financial management, accounting, reporting, taxation and compliance services across a
complex, multi-agency environment.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Deliver accurate and timely financial accounting, statutory reporting and accounting policy advice, including financial

statements, Estimates papers, revenue recognition, asset accounting and revaluations, ensuring compliance with Australian
Accounting Standards and Northern Territory Government legislation and policy.

2. Prepare financial reports, reconciliations, and statutory registers, maintaining the integrity and reliability of the general ledger,
financial systems and internal financial controls.

3. Provide taxation advice and reporting, including Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) returns and
other taxation obligations.

4. Analyse financial information and emerging issues to provide evidence-based advice and recommendations that support
operational and strategic decision-making.

5. Contribute to the development, review, implementation and continuous improvement of financial policies, procedures and
governance frameworks and internal controls to strengthen financial governance and compliance.

6. Build and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders and communicate financial information clearly to support informed
business decisions.

7. Demonstrate initiative, accountability, and sound professional judgment while contributing to team outcomes, continuous
improvement, and compliance with NTPS values, Code of Conduct, and WHS requirements.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience applying Australian Accounting Standards, Treasurer’s Directions, legislation, policy, taxation (GST

and FBT) together with preparation of financial reports, reconciliations, and statutory returns.
2. Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial information, undertake research and provide

evidence based advice and recommendations.
3. Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines while maintaining a high standard of work.
4. Ability to self-motivate, work independently and as a member of a team to achieve outcomes.
5. Demonstrated ability to communicate complex financial concepts and advice clearly to non-stakeholders.
6. Demonstrated competency in financial management information systems together with Microsoft Excel and Office

applications.

Desirable
1. Relevant qualifications and capability, including tertiary qualifications in accounting, finance, or related discipline.

The successful applicant will be required to hold a valid Working with Children Card (Ochre Card) and may be required to undergo
a check of police criminal history and probity. Position may require the ability to work rostered shifts to coincide with emergency
management response and other at-risk activity.
