The Role
This role will work in a small dynamic team that will provide a range of support services across the branch. You will be responsible for actively managing stakeholder relationships and will be required to identify stakeholder expectations to achieve outcomes. You will be required to manage a Budget, Costs and Financial Analysis function and are responsible for the development, implementation, compliance and review of policies and procedures.
You may be required to engage in very complex problem solving and issues management, and coordinate and perform detailed or sensitive projects impacting strategic, political or operational outcomes for Defence. You will also provide guidance and oversight of the overall branch budget, including regular reporting. You will be required to provide clear and consistent communication, manage performance and behavioural standards, while guiding and developing staff. Importantly you must be able to influence and motivate the team to deliver key outcomes in tight timeframes.
About our Team
Fuel Services Branch is a blended team made up of Australian Public Service (APS), Australian Defence Force (ADF) and contractor staff. The branch is establishing a Project Management Office that will provide a range of services across the branch, including providing support to the implementation of key initiatives outlined in the National Defence Strategy (NDS).
Key responsibilities include:
Work closely with colleagues to ensure the success of projects and tasks being managed across the branch.
Escalate issues as required to senior management for further consideration and guidance.
Produce regular project status reports, including risk and financial.
Engage and negotiate with clients and stakeholders.
Respond to complex enquiries, taking the initiative to identify alternative courses of action where necessary.
Build and sustain productive relationships with supervisors, staff and team members and actively participate in teamwork and group activities.

Some key skills that will help to ensure your success in these roles are:
Experience in managing Budget, Costs and Financial Analysis functions.
Experience in developing cost estimates and undertaking analysis to support decision making, milestone reviews, government approvals and independent cost assessments.
Experience in analysing and evaluating cost estimates and being able to advise senior management to support decision making processes.
Ability to evaluate and provide recommendations on cost estimation policy, guidance, processes, methods, tools and training to improve cost estimation and analysis.
A strong understanding of when to escalate issues to senior management, ensuring you provide solutions to the issues identified.
Ability to keep a team motivated and focused on achieving key outcomes.
Strong interpersonal skills matched with a positive attitude.
