Literacy Specialists (K–3) – Renert School

Renert School, located in Royal Oak NW, is one of Calgary’s leading private schools. We’re known for our high academic standards and exceptional teachers, all dedicated to creating effective and joyful programming for children. Our literacy instruction in Grades K-3 utilizes phonics and the Science of Reading approach.

We are currently seeking committed and knowledgeable Educational Assistants with specialized training in the Science of Reading to support K–3 students experiencing reading challenges. The ideal candidate will have experience working one-on-one with children, a strong background in phonics-based instruction, and the ability to implement structured literacy programs effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide individualized and small-group reading support using evidence-based practices.
Work directly with students to address specific reading difficulties and track progress over time.
Use decodable texts and structured phonics instruction to build strong foundational reading skills.
Collaborate with classroom teachers to design and deliver targeted reading intervention plans.
Apply knowledge from the Science of Reading and other programs (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, if trained).
Maintain clear records of student sessions and communicate regularly with classroom teachers about progress.
Collaborate with teachers to align literacy interventions with classroom instruction to reinforce student learning.
Show a willingness to learn, reflect, and grow as a literacy educator.
Qualifications:

A genuine love of children and a strong commitment to their academic success.
Training and experience in the Science of Reading (required).
At least 2 years of experience working one-on-one with students, especially those with reading challenges.
Background in education or homeschooling.
Proficiency in phonics-based instruction and experience using decodable readers.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Able to work both independently and as part of a collaborative school team.
Receptive to feedback and committed to continuous professional growth.
Preferred:

Training or experience with the Orton-Gillingham approach.
Familiarity with reading assessments and progress monitoring tools.
