We have a big name – and a big mission.

We’re the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety. But you can call us CCOHS. We’re a federal government corporation that’s focused on a single mission: we believe everyone in Canada has the right to a healthy and safe workplace where they can thrive. Our tools and resources are designed to give employers and workers across the country the information they need to stay healthy and safe, both physically and mentally, on the job.

The Director of Communications and Marketing (the Director) is part of the executive leadership team that is accountable for the overall functioning of our organization, ensuring that it operates efficiently and effectively and delivers on its mandate. As part of the leadership team, the Director contributes to setting organizational strategic, budget, and policy direction, with a consensus-based approach.

The Director spearheads our communications and promotional strategy. They develop, implement, and evaluate our strategic communications and promotional frameworks that support our mandate to advance health and safety in Canada. They raise awareness of our organization, products, services and programs, drive our reach, brand reputation, growth and usage of our materials.

If you’re excited about making a difference and being part of a culture that values innovation, professional growth, and your overall well-being, we definitely want you to read on.

About The Role

The Director of Communications and Marketing (the Director) oversees the implementation of strategies and initiatives to achieve performance goals and alignment with our Strategic Plan in the following areas: responsiveness to clearly identified needs of Canadians; quality standards and integrity; expansion of the scope, outreach, impact and revenues through targeted promotion; and operating within a sustainable financial framework with respect to costs and revenues.

The Director establishes and maintains the institutional voice and presence of CCOHS, with appropriate tone and perspective reflective of the tripartite nature of the Centre, while protecting and enhancing the Centre’s reputation and maintaining brand integrity across all platforms.

As the designated federal government “HOC” (head of communications) for the Centre, the Director is responsible for ensuring organizational compliance with federal policies and reporting requirements including the federal communications and identity program; advertising directive; annual report; publishing; and printing.

Through the work of their department, the Director is responsible for delivering products, events, commitments, copyrights, accessibility and internal and external communications standards, and enabling effective cross-departmental collaboration to fulfill and advance the work of CCOHS.

The Director is a trusted strategic advisor to the President and Chief Executive Officer and leadership team, with respect to the business and work of CCOHS, internal and external messaging, and promotional, branding, and communication strategies.
